Fine Dining Choices in Stockholm

Whether it’s a special occasion or you want to experience some of the best of what Stockholm has to offer, there are plenty of fine dining options that are worth the money – and be warned, in Sweden, restaurants can get pretty expensive. But hey – you only live once! So put on your best clothes and check out some of the nicest restaurants around the city.

Stadshuskällaren

Located directly under the beautiful city hall building in Stockholm (Stadshuset) lies Stadshuskällaren. Established in 1922, it is one of Stockholm’s oldest restaurants. With it’s warm lighting, the ambiance of the restaurant is very relaxing and the staff is very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for something very special. This restaurant caters the Nobel dinners every year. So if it’s good enough for the royal family and Nobel prize winners, it just might be tasty enough for you! 🙂

Look for special menus, like the Nobel menu. You can book a dinner with the exact menu from the Nobel dinner the year before. There are other menus available from every year starting in 1901, but you must book at least a week in advance to request one of those.

And even if you are not planning to order the full course Nobel dinner, and would prefer to choose a la carte, be sure to book a table.

Smak

Smak is a very special restaurant near Hötorget with a unique concept. You can build your own tasting menu. You are given a list of items where you can choose 1 – 3 – 5 or 7 courses of small dishes. There are also suggestions of wines to pair with the food, including small tastings of wines so you can really match the flavor to the specific dish. The food is outstanding and it’s a great experience to be able to try many special dishes at once.

Woodstockholm has been a fixture in beautiful Mosebacke Torg for a decade now and it is still very popular, as their menu is constantly changing. Their amazing chefs take on different themes throughout the year with sharing dishes available to choose from, not to mention an amazing selection of wines. This place is heaven for foodies, but be sure to reserve a table as spaces are popular and limited.

Häktet

Located in an old jail from the 1700s, Häktet is truly a unique spot for a restaurant. In summer, there are seats in the courtyard as well as indoors, which is open throughout the winter. The menu is limited but excellent. Perfect for a date night! Reservations should be made for weekends, but during the week, finding a table last minute is a bit easier. (Closed on Sundays.)

Café Cuvée

Café Cuvée is a cozy, upscale neighborhood restaurant on Södermalm that serves excellent small dishes to share with friends. Don’t let the simple exterior and small size fool you, the food is delicious, the staff is friendly and attentive, and they have a great wine list! Be sure to make reservations.

Asian Post Office

If you’re looking for some innovative Asian cuisine, Asian Post Office on Norrmalm is the place to be. The ambiance is chic and modern, but be warned that it can get a little crowded and loud at times. The small shared dishes are totally worth it, though! Service is attentive and the menu is creative. Make reservations, as this restaurant is very popular!
